The causeway was reopened briefly this afternoon so a man with a “serious medical condition” could be rushed from St David’s to hospital.

Superintendent Martin Weekes said the police and emergency services were able to reopen the crossing with the assistance of Works and Engineering.

“His family got him to the Urgent Care Centre,” he told the Emergency Broadcast Station at 3pm.

“We got an ambulance down there and got him safely to hospital. It was very lucky to happen when it did and we got to St David’s to pick him up.”

No further information about the man or his condition is available at this point.
