Accused gunman put on remand

Magistrates' Court

A man has been jailed pending the setting of a trial date, charged with an aggravated burglary in which a gun was fired.

Josef Smith, 26, of Border Lane North in Devonshire, shouted “I’ll get you” at a police officer in Magistrates’ Court as he was led from the dock.

Mr Smith appeared before Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo, accused of forcing his way into a dwelling on North Shore Road in Hamilton Parish, and stealing an iPhone and a Samsung Galaxy.

He was further charged with handling a firearm while committing an indictable offence, and discharging a bullet from the gun.

Mr Smith, represented by lawyer Saul Dismont, was not required to enter a plea, as the charges must be heard before the Supreme Court.

Refusing to grant bail, Mr Tokunbo remanded the accused, ordering him to return to court on November 17.
