Island’s toughest to do battle
Prepare for a show of strength like few others — the Island’s toughest residents will face off at the annual Kings of Construction Block Party.
Competitors will battle it out to discover who is the strongest, with challenges including pulling a truck, carrying and stacking concrete blocks, and filling 50-gallon drums with sand in a race against the clock.
The event is hosted by the Construction Association of Bermuda and will focus on “brute strength and fierce competition”.
Charles Dunstan, the chairman of the Construction Association of Bermuda, said: “We expect a great turnout and the whole family to have tons of fun; all for an excellent cause.”
Six teams of five will compete, with entrants from Bermuda Air Conditioning, the Bermuda Regiment, Bermuda Fire and Rescue, and Bermuda Police Service.
The contest will take place on Front Street on Friday at 7.30pm beside The Docksider Pub, which will be offering drink and dinner specials along with neighbour Rosa’s.
Street vendors and food will also be available, including Ashley’s Lemonade and Portuguese doughnuts from Stella Maris, plus DJs will provide music and the Go Down Berries will perform at about 10pm, after the competition.
Children will be able to play on heavy construction equipment and ride in a high lift provided by Just Roofs Plus.
Spectators are welcome at no charge to watch the contest or music acts.
All proceeds from the event will go towards the association’s scholarship fund for students pursuing careers in the construction industry.
