Residents’ fury over Warwick Pond trash

Litter louts: “Inconsiderate” dumpers abandoned a heap of old furniture, trash and even a television at the Warwick Pond nature reserve, to the fury of residents in the area

Angry neighbours have criticised illegal dumpers who left a pile of trash at a Warwick beauty spot.

Residents of the Olivebank Townhouses were disgusted to find a mound of household waste on their doorstep at Warwick Pond last week.

The National Trust has condemned the actions of the “inconsiderate culprits” and urged anyone who recognises the rubbish to contact them so the dumpers can be caught.

“We just had a work party at this nature reserve last week to clear up after Gonzalo and now some inconsiderate litterer has dumped their load at the entrance to a lovely reserve,” said Jennifer Gray, executive director of the National Trust.

“These special places are kept for the enjoyment of everyone in Bermuda and it’s a shame that one person can ruin the experience for all, not to mention the extra removal costs to the Trust when we are struggling for every penny to preserve Bermuda.

“If anyone recognises the articles in the photo they should contact us so the culprit can be brought to shame and blame.

“How could anyone show such disregard for this beautiful Island?”

The trash, which included furniture, a television and household items, was dumped at the entranceway to Olivebank Townhouses on Saturday afternoon.

Sue Garland, a resident of Olivebank, told The Royal Gazette: “We just cannot believe people would have the nerve to do something like this.

“There’s a sense of anger and dismay. We believe those responsible dropped the trash by the Warwick Pond sign at around 12.30pm on Saturday.

“We hope the Trust can help by removing it, although we understand how busy they are.”
