Mall sparkles with sports-themed trees

On the ball: Damien Baxter searches for a picture of his son on the Pembroke Hamilton Club’s tree

When it comes to Christmas spirit, Washington Mall is on the ball.

A total of 11 sports organisations, ranging from the Bermuda Bicycle Association (BBA) to the Bermuda Football Association (BFA) have decorated Christmas trees in the mall, with each one themed to their club or programme.

All the organisations spent Monday night decorating their trees in the new extension of the shopping hub with ornaments in the colours of their clubs. They included handmade decorations celebrating club members, logos and climbing ropes used as tinsel.

The Catlin Christmas Tree Event also featured the following participants: Dandy Town, Pembroke Hamilton Club (PHC), North Village Community Club, Bermuda Hockey Federation, Bermuda Triathlon Association, Hamilton Parish Youth Programme, Somerset Cricket Club Under 12 Reds and Southampton Rangers Fundamentals Youth Development Programme.

The community is encouraged to support their team by paying a visit to the mall to see how much work has gone into each tree.

The participating groups are competing for a grand prize of $2,500, a second-place prize of $1,000 and third-place prize of $750. The winning trees will be determined by a panel of judges and will be announced on December 22.

There will also be a People’s Choice Award for the best tree, with a $1,500 prize at stake. Voting forms to choose the best display are located near the trees and voting runs until December 19.
