Marc Bean, the leader of the Progressive Labour Party, paid a surprise visit to the Bermuda football team for their 2018 World Cup qualifying match in Bahamas last night.

Bermuda made the perfect start to qualifying with a 5-0 win in Nassau that makes them a certainty to move on to the next round against Guatemala in June.

“The Progressive Labour Party congratulates the Bermuda national football team on its solid performance in the first leg of the World Cup qualifier against Bahamas in Bahamas,” the Opposition said in a statement. “We commend the players, the coaching staff, training staff and the rest of the team for this result, and we anticipate a wonderful game on Sunday at the National Sports Centre. We encourage everyone to join our team and show our national pride. Let’s fill the stadium on Sunday.”

Mr Bean added: “I was proud and honoured to attend this first leg in Bahamas and to witness Bermuda’s solid victory. I look forward to Sunday at the National Sports Centre.”
