Bermudian, Canadian Alma students to reunite

An art exhibition is being held at City Hall as part of the reunion

A reunion for the alumnae of Alma College, Canada, is to take place in Bermuda from tomorrow until May 5.

All former Alma students are invited to attend the event.

The former Alma College was a girls’ private collegiate boarding school in St Thomas, Ontario and over the years numerous Bermudian girls attended. The school closed in 1988 and the building was destroyed in a fire in 2008 but the many friendships that were forged have been long-lasting.

On Wednesday evening, former Bermudian and Canadian Alma girls will meet at a cocktail reception at Grotto Bay Beach Resort.

Patricia Coutts Kirby, an accomplished artist and frequent visitor to Bermuda, is the 1967 Alma College roommate of Bermudian, Cheryl-Ann Griffin.

Mrs Kirby will hold an art exhibition and demonstration workshop during this reunion and for the month of May at the Bermuda Society of Arts at City Hall.

A spokeswoman said: “In 2009, 22 Canadian alumnae visited Bermuda when they enjoyed a week at The Grotto Bay Beach Resort. Happy times abounded as they were reunited with Bermuda alumnae on several occasions including a formal reunion banquet and personal guided tours around the Island.

“We hope to create many more memories this year as we recall and reminisce the ‘ Good Ole Alma Days’.”
