The achievements made by students in the first year of the middle school transformation plan will be celebrated in an exhibition being hosted by the Department of Education this Thursday.

Following an audit of the Island’s five middle schools last year, the transformation plan was introduced to help students reach their full potential.

As part of the plan, there was a shift from teacher-centred instruction to student-centred learning with targeted academic interventions and the framing of positive student behaviour.

Director of educational standards and administration Lou Matthews said: “Department personnel, principals and teachers have worked tirelessly over the year, through rigorous professional development, to improve educational outcomes of all students in the middle school system. As a result of the hard work, we are seeing growth in lesson delivery and student engagement. Schools are reporting success in implementing the new system wide framework.”

Along with the exhibition there will also be a performance showcase. Members of the public are invited to attend the free event which begins at 5.30pm at CedarBridge Academy. The performance showcase will begin at 6.30pm in the Ruth Seaton James Centre for the Performing Arts.
