Sandys Parish offers education bursaries

Four “deserving” students are being given an opportunity to boost their higher education prospects by the Sandys Parish Council Bursary Awards Committee.

Bermudian residents of the parish, who are taking their education beyond the secondary school level on the Island or abroad, can apply for bursary awards ranging from $500 to $1,500 per student.

“As part of the Sandys Parish Council’s commitment to youth development, the Council provides deserving students that reside and/or work in Sandys Parish with financial assistance in the form of a Bursary Award to assist in defraying costs for tertiary education,” said Pat Chapman, chairwoman of the Bursary Awards Committee.

“The benefits and opportunities to the students, their families and the community are immeasurable. They include financial relief, a sense of community involvement and commitment, charter building and leadership toward becoming productive and civic minded individuals in the future.”

Ms Chapman added that successful applicants will be able to give back to the Sandys community and the Council by providing assistance and participating in community events throughout the year.

The bursaries are awarded annually based on academic and financial need.

Applicants must have completed one year at their educational institution and need to demonstrate academic ability with a minimum GPA of 2.75 or B equivalent.

The deadline for applications is July 24.
