Sandys 360 demise down to ‘bad management’

The fate of the Sandys 360 sports facility, shut down since last year, remains in question — and its demise has been blamed on bad management by Home Affairs Minister Michael Fahy.

Diallo Rabain, the Opposition Leader in the Senate, noted during the motion to adjourn that the Bermuda Government continued to pay out a small maintenance figure to keep the centre operable.

“Where are we going with that?” Sen Rabain asked, charging that the One Bermuda Alliance had the wrong priorities when it came to the division of scant Government finances. Senator Fahy responded that the centre was “a private entity and a private concern — not a Government initiative”.

“It’s unfortunate that a private concern has failed, so what is the Government to do?” Sen Fahy said, acknowledging that “a little money” was being spent to keep Sandys 360 operational.

“It seems to have been run very badly,” Sen Fahy added.
