Passengers flying on the US Airways’ Philadelphia flight last night were faced with a six-hour delay due to problems with aircraft maintenance.

The flight was scheduled to leave Bermuda at 3pm but passengers did not take off until 9.10pm.

A spokeswoman for Airport Operations at LF Wade International Airport said: “The aircraft had a problem in Philadelphia. We have heard that it came from Philly and started the flight but then had to turn around and go back to Philadelphia Airport. It eventually departed and arrived in Bermuda at 8.34pm.”

It is understood there was a problem with the landing gear.
