The Ministry of Public Works will be carrying out a “steam blow” at the Tynes Bay Waste-to-Energy Facility later this month, causing noise and water vapour.

According to a spokesman, as part of the instillation of the new turbine, the facility will conduct a series of steam blows between October 12 and 14. All of the exercises are scheduled to take place between 4.15pm and 5.15pm.

“The purpose of the exercise is to clean the new turbine piping of any foreign materials that may be left over from construction by blowing through a large volume of high pressure steam,” a spokeswoman said.

“Each ‘steam blow’ will last between five to 15 minutes and will produce a loud noise of rushing air and a white water vapour plume in the general area of the facility. Residents and members of the public within the general area should not be alarmed when these events occur.

“The Ministry of Public Works wishes to thank the public for their co-operation while this critical work takes place and apologises for any inconvenience it may incur.”
