A home on St Anne’s Road in Southampton suffered “extensive heat and smoke damage” in a fire today.

According to spokeswoman Sergeant Russann Francis, Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service personnel responded to a report of smoke and flames coming from a lower apartment at about 1.51pm.

“On our arrival there was visible smoke seen emitting from a vent on the front of the structure,” she said.

“Two firefighters dressed in breathing apparatus and equipped with a 1½ inch hose line entered the premises to extinguish the fire.”

She added that the firefighters confirmed all persons were out of the home prior to entering the premises and that the quick action of the five personnel helped to contain the fire to the lower level.

The residence suffered “extensive heat and smoke damage throughout” and the fire is being investigated.
