Regret expressed over airport delays

The company responsible for providing ground handling services at LW Wade International has expressed regret after passengers endured significant delays collecting their luggage at the weekend.

Many visitors arriving in Bermuda on Saturday for the July 4 weekend were left frustrated by having to wait up to two hours to get through the airport. Brian McCormick, general manager of Menzies Aviation, said it was “unfortunate” passengers were affected by two flights arriving two hours or more behind schedule.

“These rolling delays were as the result of weather in hubs,” he said.

“All other flights that arrived on schedule were processed with priority to maintain their on-time departures from Bermuda. As a result, arriving passengers from the two delayed flights received their bags late, one exceeding 60 minutes.

“The airline operators of the delayed flights acknowledged our efforts once they landed.

“There were no other issues at play and all airlines reported that flight handling service levels outside of these two flights were met throughout a very busy peak travel weekend in Bermuda.”
