Show your Cup Match colours for a good cause

Raising funds: the ribbons

It is the final run to Cup Match, and social helping agency Family Centre is using the occasion, with the help of its sponsor Clarien Bank, to raise funds with its special themed ribbons.

With Bermudians mustering in red camps and blue camps for the annual cricket showdown, the centre is looking forward to its island-wide tag day on July 27 — and on Monday, July 25, executive director Martha Dismont will present ribbons to Michael Dunkley, the Premier, at the Cabinet Office.

“The rivalry of this exchange is always lively,” she said.

This year’s tag day will include Cup Match stickers emblazoned with the colours of the St George’s and Somerset teams. Volunteers will man stations in Hamilton and around the island.

Clarien Bank employees will join in the campaign, with chief marketing officer Michael DeCouto calling on the community to pitch in for the cause.

“It has always been a humbling experience for Family Centre to have the privilege of holding a tag day during the Cup Match season,” Ms Dismont said. “We recognise the importance of honouring Bermuda’s heritage events, and we are so grateful to the public for supporting our tag day at this time. We are also very, very grateful to Clarien Bank for its continued sponsorship.

“This year, due to the growing costs of producing ribbons as our ‘tag’, we have chosen to consider Cup Match stickers in the colours of the teams.

“There will be some ribbons available at gas stations and business locations. However, on the day, we will primarily be selling Cup Match stickers.”

Family Centre has also teamed up with Bermemes to spread the message in a fun, interactive way via social media.
