One Bermuda Alliance chairwoman Lynne Woolridge has offered Government’s sympathies to those affected by yesterday’s fire in Hamilton.

“Today is a sad day for Bermuda, the tenants of 77-81 Front Street and other affected businesses that contribute so much to the fabric of our community,” she said in a statement last night.

“While it is fortunate there were no injuries, the losses to the organisations affected will be devastating.”

Ms Woolridge vowed that the OBA would join with the community to support the rebuilding of the enterprises, while urging “anyone who can assist to do so in whatever way they can”.

“We offer sincere thanks to the Bermuda Police Service, EMTs and the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service who responded quickly and professionally to bring the blaze under control,” she added.

The Progressive Labour Party expressed its gratitude to the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service today.

“We are grateful that, due to the attention and professional work of the emergency services, there was no loss of life and the spread of the fire was limited,” said the PLP in a statement.

“We also hope that in light of reports that the efforts of the BFRS may have been hampered by a disabled truck, plans have been made to rectify this so our emergency personnel have all the resources they need to keep our community safe in the future.

“We wish to express our support for the businesses that have been affected by the fire, and it is our hope that all businesses and organisations affected will be given the support needed to resume operations as soon as possible.”
