ConnecTech will host a community open house on Wednesday as part of its participation in Computer Science Education Week.

All interested parents and students are invited to attend the event, which takes place from 4pm to 7pm.

A highlight of the open house is the Hour of Code, whereby participants engage in one hour of computer science activity with ConnecTech coding instructors regardless of experience level.

ConnecTech students will also be participating in the Hour of Code events during their respective classes. “We’re very proud to be a part of this global celebration of computer science,” Coral Wells, ConnecTech’s founder, said.

“Computer science opens more doors for students than any other discipline in today’s world. Learning even the basics will help students in virtually any career from architecture to zoology.

“Just as we teach students how to dissect a frog, or how electricity works, it’s important for every 21st-century student to have a chance to design an app or an algorithm, or learn how the internet works.”

The Hour of Code is the highlight of Computer Science Education Week, which takes place from Wednesday to Sunday.

In addition to the Hour of Code, the open house will also showcase the options available at ConnecTech for small businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs.

Guests will be treated to light refreshments, Ras Pi demonstrations, a Minecraft scripting workshop, A Start Up Weekend presentation, WordPress demos and portfolio highlights from the existing companies within ConnecTech.

“We encourage the community to come by and meet the ConnecTech community as well as participate in the code movement,” Ms Wells said.
