Motorist banned and fined

A 38-year-old Pembroke man has been fined and banned from the road for failing to give a breath sample for analysis.

Appearing in Magistrates’ Court this morning, Antoine Waldron pleaded guilty to the offence that happened in Pembroke on January 20.

The court heard that at about 11.52pm, Waldron lost control of his car while driving on Reid Street and crashed into a parked car, which then hit another vehicle.

Police attended the scene when Waldron told officers that he had “spun out” and hit the car after turning onto Reid Street from Parliament Street.

As the officers spoke to Waldron, they noticed his eyes were red, he smelled of liquor and he appeared unsteady on his feet.

When asked if he had been drinking, he replied: “Yes, I had three Chivas and ale.”

He was arrested and taken to Hamilton Police Station where he refused to give a sample of breath for analysis.

While Waldron apologised to the court, magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo handed him a $800 fine and disqualified him from driving all vehicles for 12 months.
