Schoolchildren took to the seas for a week of fun on board the Spirit of Bermuda thanks to a generous donation from one of Bermuda’s main shipping firms.

The pupils from Saltus Grammar School got some hands-on experience on board the sloop as a result on Bermuda Container Line’s ongoing support of the maritime education initiative.

It is the third year that BCL has helped fund the scheme and the firm has committed to continue its support of Saltus’s yearly sloop expedition through to 2019.

“Being on the open ocean and having the freedom to go wherever you want was my favourite bit,” Reid Browne said.

Meanwhile, asked about the most valuable skill she learnt, Eleanor Dunleavy said: “That you have to work together because you will get things done more effectively and more efficiently.”
