The crying game

Town criers from around the world yesterday tested their voices against Bermuda’s own Ed Christopher and David Frith at the first day of the Bermuda International Town Crier Competition.
The three-day competition started in St George with Mr Frith having the home-field advantage against competitors from America, Britain and Canada.
Each of the criers was tasked with delivering a “cry” on the subject of the 20th Anniversary of the twinning of St George and Lyme Regis and were judged on their volume, clarity, diction, inflection, confidence and the content of their message.
The event continues today on the steps of Hamilton’s City Hall at 11am before returning to St George for the finals on Friday.
