Burglars raid Devonshire florist

Burglars raided a Devonshire florist over the weekend, stealing a safe containing cash.

According to a police spokesman, officers responded to a report of a burglary at around 7.30am yesterday.

“It appears that sometime overnight intruders gained entry into the business and removed a safe,” the spokesman said. “The safe was later recovered at the Arboretum, minus a quantity of cash.”

Carmen Phillips, owner of Demco, confirmed that the South Road store had been the one targeted, saying this afternoon that she was thankful that no one was hurt as the incident took place when the shop was closed.

Police are urging anyone with information, or anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area of the Arboretum on Saturday night or early Sunday morning, to contact the Criminal Investigation Department at 247-1744.
