The track at the National Sports Centre is getting a spring cleaning this week, with three years of sand and grit being washed away.
Trevor Madeiros, the NSC facilities manager, said almost everyone — including Sean Tucker, NSC chairman, and lifeguard Shannon Botelho — has been lending a hand.
“We are doing two to three hour shifts as it is rather tedious and uncomfortable for an extended period of time, especially in the hot sun,” Mr Madeiros said. “Altogether I expect that it will take about 35 days to wash the entire track.”
He explained the track is cleaned every three years due to sand and grit getting embedded into the surface over time.
