Police warning about commercial burglaries

Business owners are being warned to take precautions after several recent burglaries at commercial premises.

In a statement, Detective Superintendent Sean Field-Lament of the Bermuda Police Service said: “Simple measures such as installing motion activated outside lighting, installing or refreshing existing alarm systems and/or CCTV helps in target hardening of facilities, which can go a long way in deterring criminals from selecting your premises.

“Daily depositing of earnings will lessen the loss potential and we strongly urge businesses not to leave large amounts of cash on premises, as this provides criminals with incentive.

“In addition, if you see suspicious activities or persons around your premises, make note of the individuals and contact the police immediately.”

Any business owner looking for further advice is asked to contact a reputable security company or Inspector Scott Devine at 717-2180 to identify the appropriate Community Action Team officer to assist.

Meanwhile, the public is again urged to help police by reporting any suspicious activity to the main police telephone number, 295-0011, or the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-8477.
