A new online project has highlighted Bermuda's marine life.

The infographic, launched on the Hamilton Princess website, showcases ten species found in the island's waters along with their threat level.

Diarmaid O'Sullivan, director of marketing at Hamilton Princess & Beach Club, said: “We created this online experience to show a glimpse of what it is like to dive in Bermuda while spreading awareness around the vulnerability of some of our most beautiful marine species.

“Our guests at the Hamilton Princess come from all over the world to experience Bermuda's turquoise waters and the breathtaking marine life that live among the corals.

“For many divers, it is the parrotfish that they want to see most. As well as being beautifully coloured, these fascinating fish help clean the reef by feeding on algae that are attached to the coral.”

Mr O'Sullivan said scientific studies had shown that the healthiest reefs are those with large parrotfish populations.

He added that this was “why it's so imperative that, in Bermuda, we continue to protect the parrotfish, while not neglecting the other fish that live here”.

The images of the ten species, which include parrotfish, Bermuda blue angelfish, red grouper and barracuda, are accompanied by a short description.
