Hurricane Leslie is expected to pass 433 miles from the island this afternoon, according to the Bermuda Weather Service.

The Bermuda Weather Service’s 11.30am update said: “The main impact to Bermuda will be large easterly swells which are generating hazardous surf and rip currents, especially along South Shore.

“Otherwise, apart from the chance of a few brief showers during this afternoon and tomorrow morning, it will be mainly fine.

“Moderate to strong winds will ease to light to moderate by tomorrow.”

The Category 1 hurricane was 443 miles east of the island and moving north about noon.

It is expected to reach its closest point of approach at 5pm today.

The system is expected to weaken tomorrow morning before turning east.
