Belco plans new showroom

Power firm Belco has asked permission to create an electric vehicle showroom and workshop in one of its buildings.

The showroom is planned for an existing building at the junction of Cemetery Lane and Serpentine Road in Pembroke.

A planning application said that the work would be an interior conversion only and would not mean structural changes.

The plans showed the majority of the building will be showroom for cars and motorcycles, along with a workshop, a meeting room and a storage area for parts.

A spokesman for the Ascendant Group, Belco’s parent company, said: “The Ascendant Group sees great potential for electric vehicles in Bermuda.

“Belco is a big advocate and has the largest fleet of EVs on the island.

“The planning application was submitted as part of a plan to move forward with importing EVs to Bermuda, but there is no time frame in place and plans have not yet advanced beyond the exploratory phase.”
