Parking pay stations refusing cards

Technical issues at two Hamilton parking lots caused headaches for motorists yesterday.

According to a City of Hamilton spokeswoman, problems arose at the No 1 and City Hall parking lots, which caused the ticket machines to not accept credit or debit cards.

The spokeswoman said: “The issue seems to be program-related and not internet related.

“We are investigating to see if it is an issue associated with the new chips in credit/debit cards.

“The pay machines in these lots are using older technology that may not be up to speed with the new chips.”

As a result of the issues, City staff came out to both parking lots to help any motorists who encountered problems.
