Motorcade for Special Olympics heroes

A motorcade to celebrate Bermuda's Special Olympics World Games athletes will be held today.

The team made a strong finish at the Special Olympics in Abu Dhabi with 19 medals, which included three silver and five bronze medals, and a string of placings.

The motorcade will start at noon from the Arboretum in Devonshire.

It will move along Middle Road to the north end of Reid Street, up Queen Street, turning on to Church Street, where there will be a brief pause at City Hall.

It will then continue along Church Street turning on to Court Street, turning into the grounds of Cabinet for 1pm when a reception will be held.

Lovitta Foggo, the Minister of Labour, Community Affairs and Sport, said: “Because they have done so incredibly well, we have organised for a motorcade to be held in their honour on Monday afternoon. I am asking everyone who can to line the streets to cheer on our athletes for a job well done. They have represented Bermuda incredibly well and we are all so proud of them.”

The motorcade will return to the Arboretum at 3pm.

The team took part in athletics, tennis, bowling and equestrian events, joining thousands of other athletes from 190 nations around the world.
