Walk celebrates families
A family walk across Hamilton at 6pm today celebrates both the International Day of Families — and the tenth anniversary of the local community group Family Forum.
A confidential support circle, Family Forum was created in 2009 by the helping agency Family Centre in response to the needs of North Hamilton residents.
Martha Dismont, the executive director of Family Centre, said the group was asking participants to join with family members to stroll across the city from the Union Street parking lot to Harbour Nights on Front Street.
The fun walk will have safety marshals along the route, ending at the Family Forum information booth and games zone, with prizes and entertainment.
The monthly meetings of Family Forum, held at the charity's headquarters at Sunshine League House on King Street, Hamilton, are designed to foster group trust and problem solving.
The theme of tonight's event is “Walking with a Purpose”, Ms Dismont added.
