Farmers’ market returns
Christmas gifts are among the items for sale this weekend as a market for home-grown food and crafts makes a return after its summer break.
The Bermuda Farmers’ Market, which supports Bermudian students through its proceeds, will run on Saturdays in the JJ Outerbridge Building at the Botanical Gardens in Paget.
Lucinda Worrell-Stowe, chairwoman of the market, said one of the vendors would be stocking poinsettias, popular for Christmas, but left in short supply after Hurricane Humberto in September.
She added: “It’s a great place to go and have a look at the diversity of what everybody has brought to sell. It’s going to run every Saturday up to December 21.”
Deborah Swan, the market secretary, said items available ranged from seasonal fruits and vegetables to health and beauty products.
She added: “We have meat pies and shark hash on sale and various types of juices, as well as fresh herbal teas.
“There are vendors doing quilting and making bags, pot holders, placemats and dinner napkins.”
A table dedicated to Christmas items will include rum puddings, fruitcakes and fruit baskets.
The market will also have $25 and $50 gift vouchers for sale.
The market, which will open from 8am to 1pm, will take a break over the festive period and return on January 4.
