A valuable lost ring has been handed in to police today after being found on the street by a youngster who believes in following the example of superheroes.

The gold ring set with precious stones was picked up at around 12.30pm by David Campbell, 4, as his parents collected him from his nursery school at Woodbourne Avenue in Pembroke.

Parents Davonne and Eliot Campbell, from Pembroke, said the youngster spotted the ring and told them: “This is not mine.”

Ms Campbell said David, wore his Green Lantern superhero shirt today at the Once Upon a Time 2 nursery school by the Woodbourne Chemist.

She said: “It was just there on the sidewalk. I told him, don’t pick it up, it’s trash — and then I realised it was a ring.”

They were on their way to Hamilton Police Station to hand in the ring when David saw Acting Inspector Andrew Smalling and “just marched up to him”, Ms Campbell said.

She added: “David is a do-gooder. He said, Thou shalt not steal.

“He lives to be a superhero — usually when he sees police officers he gives them a little handshake when we are walking by.”

Mr Smalling took the ring, along with the family’s details, and let David wear his hat, telling the youngster he might be able to get a little police hat for him.

Ms Campbell said: “David is very smart. He started reading at the age of 18 months. He always reads the words around him — he is very loving and caring.”

His mother added: “It’s like a Thanksgiving gift. Hopefully someone knows they lost it and will get it back.”

According to a police spokesman, the owner of the ring should call the station at 295-0011, give a description of their ring, and ask if it was turned in.
