Underwriter gives $107,000 to Covid-19 fund
An international insurance underwriter and its staff have donated more than $100,000 to Covid-19 relief in Bermuda.
Argo Group International announced today that its Argo Foundation had agreed to donate $25,000 to the Covid-19 Emergency Fund.
The donation came after staff at the company had donated about $35,000 of their own cash, which was matched at almost 150 per cent by the Argo Group.
The cash totalled $107,875.
William Wharton, the chairman of the Argo Foundation, said: “We recognise the critical needs that have arisen during the Covid-19 crisis.
He added: “We will continue to support other local charities as the future still remains quite uncertain. As a company, we look forward to doing our part to ensure Bermuda's future.”
Ryan Mather, the global head of reinsurance at the company, said: “Argo Group has a culture of giving that extends to our employees.
“Many have generously donated personal funds to support the Emergency Fund.
“By utilising the Argo Group charitable matching programme, we have worked together to create a bigger impact than any of us could do alone.”
He added: “We care deeply about how this crisis is affecting the community and want to do what we can to support our community.”
