Community and members’ clubs will be allowed to reopen - but with strict Covid-19 precautions, the Premier said today.

David Burt explained the clubs would be able to operate on the same basis as bars, with outdoor service if they held a liquor licence.

He said: “These clubs are a lynchpin in the social fabric of our community and serve as meeting places, sports centres and home to good food and fellowship.”

The change was included in a relaxation of coronavirus regulations signed by John Rankin, the Governor, yesterday.

Rules for clubs include:

• Tables shall be at least six feet apart; or when not possible, separated by barriers at least 1.98m high

• No group at any table shall exceed ten people and no group shall exceed 20 people in total

• No customers shall stand at the bar or elsewhere

• Indoor areas of the bar will stay closed, but

• Access to toilets will be permitted in line with directions issued by the Minister of Health.

Mr Burt added: “I would also like to take this opportunity to wish Bermuda’s fathers a Happy Father’s Day on Sunday and encourage everyone to celebrate fathers and the vital role they play in families and in the community.”
