Tobacco Bay and Snorkel Park will be open over the Cup Match holiday, with public safety being a priority.Dennie O’Connor, co-owner and operations director for the businesses said: “We are really excited for the soft reopening of both Tobacco Bay and Snorkel Park. What better time than Cup Match to have our beloved patrons come out in the spacious open air and visit us?“Although drastically different this year, we’re looking forward to celebrating Emancipation Day and Mary Prince Day with all of Bermuda.“We take the safety of our guests and staff very seriously.”Tobacco Bay will be open from Thursday to Sunday from 10am to 9pm. Snorkel Park will also be open throughout the holiday, with drinks offers, rentals and food available. Entrance to both venues is free. Mr O’Connor said: “We have already lowered prices from last season. We know that times are hard for the majority of the island, and we want to show our community that we care. “Our main goal is to keep our employees working, our debt at a minimum, and break even so we can start off next season strong. We have a line-up of spectacular DJs and drink specials sure to keep the energy up and the spirit of the holiday alive.”DJ Coolie will play at Tobacco Bay on Thursday; Nadanja Bailey on Friday; DJ Choice on Saturday. King Jyrus will play for a recurring event called Soca Distance Sunday.Mr O’Connor said that a maximum of 50 people would be permitted on the deck at Tobacco Bay at any given time. Because of the openness and shallow, calm waters of the bay, there is plenty of space for guests to socially distance, he added.He said: “Our staff wear face masks and follow hygienic practices. We have ample hand sanitiser available for guests and stress the 6ft distancing rule. All our tables and lounge chairs are spaced in accordance with Covid-19 guidelines. We are encouraging guests to please wear their face masks when moving around the deck, approaching the bar, and when using the restroom. We will also have licensed security on property to ensure protocol is being met. “At Tobacco Bay and Snorkel Park, anyone who breaks with protocol will first be given a warning. Failure to comply will result in the individual being asked to leave the property immediately.”Mr O’Connor said that it was his hope to lift people’s spirits up over the Cup Match holiday.“Times are tough for a multitude of reasons, so we feel that, as long as protocols are followed, it’s a great idea to invite the public out to celebrate Emancipation Day and Mary Prince Day. Sunshine, salty air, welcoming water, live DJ music, delicious food and drink, and excellent customer service will do wonders to lift everyone’s spirits and showcase the pride, resilience, and adaptability of Bermuda and her people.”The events have been supported by the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation, the Corporation of St George, West End Development Corporation and the Bermuda Government.
