A sail training charity for young people has “sailebrated” the youngsters involved in the programme at two special events.Endeavour Community Sailing praised the hard work of pupils from five schools after they completed the Endeavour graduate summer programme — designed to expand on the skills learnt through a similar scheme for middle schools.The graduate programme gave the students a chance to develop their skills and sailing knowledge at one of Endeavour Community Sailing’s bases in St George’s and Dockyard. Arima Turner, a 12-year old Bermuda High School pupil, said: “I enjoyed sailing with new people because I got to make new friends. “I would recommend the programme to other students. It is a good experience and they might find a new sport that they like, and make new friends.” Duboney Hannam, also 12 and a Dellwood Middle School pupil, added: “It’s fun and you get to experience something new.”Tristan Loescher, the Endeavour programme manager, said: “Many of the Endeavour graduates first started sailing during the Endeavour middle school programme. “It is remarkable to see how much they have learnt in just a short period of time with us at Endeavour this summer. We look forward to seeing them continue to learn and grow on and off the water.”A total of 37 students showed off what they learnt during the summer at the Sailebration festivities on September 26 in Dockyard and September 27 in St George’s.Melvyn Bassett, an Endeavour board member, also took part in the celebrations in DockyardDr Bassett congratulated the graduates and said: “Thank you parents for investing in your children who have shown an interest in something new. I encourage you to continue to invest in your children and wish them the very best for the future.”
