Can Boulevard bring Trojans back to earth?

Boulevard will bid to burst Somerset Trojans' bubble in the first FA Cup semi-final slated for Southampton Oval on Sunday.

It will be the seventh meeting between the two clubs this season.

While Blazers so far have nothing to show for a season that has promised much, Trojans seem to have re-acquired an appetite for winning cup titles.

Somerset are presently riding high following last weekend's convincing Friendship Trophy win over Premier Division champions Devonshire Cougars at the National Sports Club.

But they could run into hostile territory against a Blazers team hell bent on advancing to a first FA Cup final since 1997 and salvaging pride for the season.

"It's all going to boil down to which team really wants it the most on the day. Somerset are red hot at the moment, but our guys are geared up for the match — although I do feel we will be the underdogs going into the match as Dennis (Trojans coach Dennis Brown) has got his team playing some aggressive football at the moment," said Blazers coach John Rebello.

Blazers have defeated Trojans twice already this season, although the West Enders got the better of them the last time out in the semi-final of the Friendship Trophy.

"I think things have been evenly balanced between us and Somerset this season, and I anticipate Sunday's match will be just as close. I just wish the game would've been played on a bigger field — no disrespect to Rangers."

Sunday will mark the second year in succession the Oval has hosted an FA Cup semi-final.

Now that post-Friendship Trophy celebrations have subsided in the West End, Trojans' coach Brown will be trying his utmost best to keep the momentum flowing as the club gun for a third title of the season.

"We still have a lot to play for but obviously we can't look beyond Boulevard. Boulevard have been a very difficult opponent for us all season and so we are just going to have to prepare for them like we prepare for any other game," Brown said.

"I think our last victory over Boulevard will have no bearing on this game, and so we are starting afresh."

In relation to Sunday's venue, Brown said he would've preferred to have had the match played on a bigger pitch.

"I honestly feel the FA Cup semi-final should not be played on the smaller confines at Rangers," he added.

"But both teams will have to play on the same pitch, and so it's now all up to us to do the best we can under the circumstances."
