Yearwood bags second silver medal

Bermuda’s 12-year-old swim sensation Ashley Yearwood has collected her second silver medal at the Carifta Swimming Championships in Kingston, Jamaica.

Yearwood placed second in the 100 metres freestyle in an outstanding time of 1:03.51.

She was pipped by the same Trinidadian girl who beat her in the final of the 200 metres freestyle a day earlier.

Yearwood again started strongly and was first at the turn only to be touched out at the finish.

Her time eclipsed by two seconds the Bermuda age group record previously held by Flora Duffy.

Not to be outdone, Nick Patterson set his fourth and fifth age group records of the meet. In the 200 metres butterfly he stripped an incredible 11 seconds off the old mark with a time of 2:48.02.

His final swim in the 200 metres individual medley was just under the existing record set by Olympian Stephen Fahy. The new record stands at 2:41.94.

Bermuda’s day was rounded out with Lara Loescher breaking the Island record previously held by Anastasia Lau, clocking 36.04 in the 15-17 girls’ 50 metres breaststroke.
