Linda Down and Lela Stearns will carry the net lead into today’s final round of the 23rd annual Ladies Invitation golf tournament at Mid Ocean Club after firing a superb 64 under difficult conditions yesterday.

On 134 after two rounds, Down and Stearns hold a four-shot lead over Pooh Lockwood and Mazzie Gogolak, who also returned a net 64 yesterday, with first round leaders Elaine Stevens and June Eyton just one shot back in third.

Stevens and Eyton, who led both net and gross divisions after the first day, fired a creditable net score of 72 yesterday (gross 85).

Anne Probert almost added to her tally of seven holes-in-one on the 128-yard seventh with a magnificent shot which landed five inches from the cup.

Probert and Shirley Wildi lead the gross division on 159 after rounds of 84 and 75. Helen Stovell and Dede Brooks (160) are one shot behind after rounds of 83 and 77.
