Sims misses out again
Nobody could accuse him of playing badly, but two solid rounds from Michael Sims were not enough to make the cut yesterday at the Nationwide Tour’s Fort Smith Classic in Arkansas.
The 29-year-old started the second round at the 6,674-yard Hardscrabble Country Club course at one-under-par for the tournament having fired a respectable score of 69 on Thursday.
With the projected cut hovering around the minus-two, minus-three mark, another sub-par effort was the order of the day for the 2005 Bermuda Open champion.
A bogey on the par-three second, however, was not the start he would have wanted, and despite going back to level par for the round straight after with a birdie on the third, another dropped shot on the par-four fifth hole saw him slip back to one-over once again.
Another bogey just after the turn on the par-four tenth, followed by a birdie on the 11th meant Sims had to play the last seven holes in three-under or better — with the seven-straight pars he ultimately reeled off to record a second round 71 proving insufficient.
Sims has made only two cuts on his debut year on the Nationwide Tour and has made just $2,807 from the nine tournaments in which he has so far competed.
