Sponsors' helmets aimed at increasing safety
Junior cricketers will be able to play the game in safer conditions thanks to Bermuda Security Group’s (BSG) e investment in helmets that are to be distributed to all Under-13 league teams registered with Bermuda Cricket Board.
BSG have purchased the helmets to ensure the safety of the Island’s aspiring players and have also supplied them with cricket shirts sporting the company’s logo and the Board’s crest.
BSG have sponsored the Board’s Under-13 league for the past three years, a league which has steadily grown in both popularity and strength having been increased to ten teams this year.
“We feel very strongly in cricket providing our youth with structure and discipline as well as a fun and safe environment in which they can spend their time after school,” commented Board president Reggie Pearman yesterday in a prepared press statement.
“Without the support from Bermuda Security Group this isn’t possible and so we are truly appreciative of the opportunities that their support has provided.”
With many new doors now opening for youth cricket, it was revealed yesterday that the BCB had received invitations to send an Under-13 representative team to compete in St.Kitt’s later this summer.
“It is exciting to know that as a direct consequence of the Under-13 league is now a national Under-13 team that we are hoping will be competing internationally later this year,” added Pearman, who has yet to confirm whether or not he will seek re-election for the Board’s presidency at the association’s AGM expected to be announced soon.
Meanwhile, an all-girls team will compete in the BCB’s Under-10 league while girls have also been encouraged to join the BSG’s Under-13 league this year.
“We view this investment in the youth programme as part of our responsibility to ensuring that we have a better Bermuda for years to come,” commented BGS vice-president Paul Ross.
“When we see the excitement, passion and the fun experienced through sport we are optimistic for the future of cricket and know that the so-called “minnows” can and will continue to surprise the more established Test nations.
“This commitment to the Under-13 league is just one piece of the overall plan for cricket in Bermuda and we are proud to be associated with the BCB in this venture.”
National coach Gus Logie, added: “The Board has always expressed a desire to improve cricket throughout Bermuda at the youth level and school level as well. So we thank Bermuda Security Group for their generous investment into Bermuda cricket.”
