Skipper Steede is fit and raring to go
Team captain Kwame Steede could be in line for his first start of the season against the Harrisburg City Islanders following his goal-scoring cameo performance in midweek.
The dynamic midfielder capped off his substitute appearance against Charlotte Eagles with a fine virtuoso strike and could replace Sammy DeGraff who will miss tonight's clash through injury.
It has been a testing few months for Steede who has watched from the sidelines while his team-mates slowly adjusted to life in the USL Division 2.
But the Devonshire Cougars man has now made a full recovery from his knee surgery and will be hoping make history by leading out the Hogges for their first ever-away game.
"I'm not taking it for granted that I will start against the Islanders as I have just returned to action and there's a lot of competition for places," said Steede who is a firm candidate to walk away with this season's Bermuda Football Association MVP award.
"The coaches pick the team and we will have to see what happens. I am just happy that I'm available to play again after missing the first three games through injury. "I was pleased to return to action against the Eagles and it was nice to score although you can never enjoy personal glory when your team lose.
"It's been very frustrating for me so far and as team captain it was hard to watch from the sidelines. But I feel good now and I just need to get my match fitness levels up."
Steede, who could partner Jared Peniston in midfield, described the Hogges' first trip to the US as an "exciting time" and believes they have improved since they last played the Islanders.
"It's an exciting time for Bermuda Hogges as this is our first away trip and we will be hoping it brings a victory," he added.
"We have played the Islanders twice already this season and lost both, but I believe we have improved since then."
Coach Kyle Lightbourne praised Steede's comeback display in midweek and sees him as a vital cog in the Hogges' midfield machinery.
"Kwame played very well when he came on against the Eagles and it was good for him to score on his comeback," said Lightbourne."He is our captain and a big player for us."
The Harrisburg City Islanders will go into tonight's encounter in confident mood after coming back from two goals down against the undefeated Cleveland City Stars at home last weekend.
