Social Club 194

(match reduced to 45 overs)

Tailenders Kevin Hurdle and Jaymo Durham shared in an unbroken 47-run, eighth-wicket partnership that steered Social Club to a three-wicket win over Bermuda’s Under-19 national team at Devonshire Recreation Club yesterday.

After enjoying reasonable success earlier with the ball Hurdle returned later to star with the bat by blasting an unbeaten 42 in a blistering knock littered with four sixes — including three in a row off spinner Chris Douglas — and two fours.

Social Club found themselves under early pressure after losing their first two wickets with only ten runs on the board but were able to stop the rot via a 52-run third-wicket stand between opener Damon Robaine (24) — who was pelted in the head by a vicious bouncer from pacer Malachi Jones — and number three Jemeiko Marshall (19).

After both Robaine and Marshall were dismissed veteran player-coach Charlie Marshall (33) and Nakia Smith (13) continued to carry the fight to the opposition and added a vital 44 runs for the sixth-wicket that laid the platform for the home team’s final push to victory, which was formalised on the penultimate ball of the 35th over when Hurdle scampered through for a comfortable single off seamer Jordan DeSilva.

DeSilva seized two for 28 to lead the Under-19s bowling while off spinner Rodney Trott took two for 51.

Earlier the Under-19s raced to 42 without loss but soon slumped to 88 for four and then 124 for eight with only Douglas (43) and Jones (33) offering resistance at the top of the order.

However, thanks to a timely 69-run unbroken ninth-wicket stand between Lamar Richardson and Dennico Hollis who both contributed 32 runs to their team’s total, the visiting Under-19s were able to post a respectable total.

Seamer Jeff Tyrell was the pick of the Social Club bowling in taking three for 31 while World Cup veteran Hurdle finished with two for 47.

St. George’s 176

Southampton Rangers 165-9

After a string of poor results visitors St. George’s came up with a surprise away 11-run victory at Southampton Oval over defending champions Southampton Rangers to boost their hopes of a league revival.

The game was recuded to 38 overs.

An inspired 71 from teenager Oronde Bascome saw the East Enders reach a respectable total against Rangers’ formidable bowling attack of which Dwayne Leverock was the key performer with figures of three for 26 off eight overs.

However, what appeared to be a attainable target for Rangers in the end proved to be a rather difficult task on a day their batting struggled — leaving veteran Stevie Lightbourne’s innings of 33 the only real performance of significance for the home side.

Rudell Pitcher was the bowling hero for the visitors, taking four for 30 off eight overs.

Cleveland 140

St. David’s 141-2

At Wellington Oval Cleveland weren’t able to share in similar celebrations against heavily favoured opponents — losing to rivals St. David’s by eight wickets.

Player-coach Lionel Cann did the bowling damage for St. David’s finishing with three for 16 off 5.1 overs. Patrick Stamp was top scorer for Cleveland with 35.

St. David’s had no problem reaching their target with O.J.Pitcher leading the way with a superb undefeated 57.

Western Stars 70

Flatts 72-4

At Wellington Oval Western Stars found runs difficult to come by with only Treadwell Gibbons jr and Wayne Campbell reaching double figures with 13 a-piece in this six-wicket loss.

Ronald Gibbons had the best bowling figures for Flatts taking three for eight off three overs while Vernon Eve had two for one off two overs.

Also among the wicket takers were Barry Decouto jr with two for 15 off eight overs and Dave Bedard two for 25 off four overs.

Kashon Franks inspired Flatts towards their winning target with 38 not out while Decouto chipped in with ten. Justin Robinson was the pick of the Stars bowlers with three for 38 off eight overs.
