Southampton Rangers 249-6; Western Stars 146

The man who gained international fame during the World Cup because of his bowling and fielding talent yesterday proved that on his day he can also make a great contribution with the bat after he stroked exactly 100 runs to lead champions Southampton Rangers to a 103-run victory over Western Stars in Premier Division limited overs play at St. John’s Field.

Producing fine shots all around the wicket Dwayne Leverock was never pinned down by the limited bowling attack, finishing with five sixes and five fours to lead the visitors to their formidable total. Also among the runs were Malachi Jones with 42 and Janeiro Tucker with 40.

Treadwell Gibbons jr was the most successful bowler for Stars with three wickets for 38 runs off ten overs with a maiden.

In reply Stars’ batsmen were never capable of reaching their target for victory and succumbed in 36.5 overs with Justin Robinson the high man on 67 — striking six fours and five sixes. Janeiro Tucker did the bowling damage for Rangers taking four for 19 off 8.5 overs with a maiden while Jason Wade finished with two for 28 off six overs.

Somerset CC 219-9

Social Club 221-6

Jacobi Robinson also came up with a century at Somerset CC yesterday but, unlike Leverock, made his in a losing cause as the West Enders were beaten by four wickets by Social Club.

Batting first the home side coasted just beyond the double-century mark thanks to Robinson’s 107 not out, including three sixes and 15 fours. Jermaine Warner chipped in with 31. Glenn Blakeney was the best bowler for Social with three for 59 off 10 overs with his spinners while Kevin Hurdle claimed two for 25 off 10 overs and Jaymo Durham two for 31 off 10 overs and two maidens.

Social made a robust reply and reached their target for victory in 45.3 overs with six wickets down, thanks to Dano Outerbridge (who also took two fine catches earlier) with 64, Charlie Marshall 48 , Blakeney 33 and Hurdle 16 not out.

Robinson added to his batting heroics by also leading the West Enders in bowling by taking two for 23 off eight overs.

Cleveland County 169 St. George’s 170-3

Allan Douglas jr led St. George’s in reply with a spirited 54 runs that enabled the home team to coast to a seven-wicket triumph at Wellington Oval.

Earlier Clay Smith and Stephen Douglas helped Cleveland to their respectable total, Smith scoring 35 and Douglas 34. Dennis Musson jr also helped with 23.

Rudell Pitcher was the top wicket-taker for St. George’s with four for 42 off 10 overs with a maiden while Rodney Trott claimed three for 29 from 10 overs.

Meanwhile the other game between St. David’s and the Under-19s was not played because Lords was unavailable for cricket.

Devonshire Rec. 162

Willow Cuts 163-6

The first meeting of the season between the First Division pacesetters saw visiting Willow Cuts emerge comfortable winners at Devonshire, thanks to fine performances by Bergon Spencer and Ryan Shepherd.

Spencer helped to keep the home side to a modest score by finishing with two wickets for 16 off 5.1 overs with a maiden to lead Cuts in bowling while Shepherd spearheaded the West Enders’ successful chase for victory in reply with a cool 47.

Dean Stephens was top-scorer for Devonshire also with 47 while Lamont Brangman was their leading bowler with two for 31 off 10 overs with a maiden.

Other scores: Somerset Bridge 176, Warwick 178-4; Police 276-7, Bailey’s Bay 97; Leg Trappers 172, PHC 105.

In a Cup Match trial at Somerset on Saturday a Western County XI defeated Somerset by 12 runs with Dwayne (Sluggo) Leverock taking four for 15 off 10 overs with four maidens.

Scores: Select XI 133, Somerset CC 121.

Janeiro Tucker was top bat for the Select with 24 while Monroe Darrell scored 16 and Ryan Shepherd 15. Marcus Johnson was the best bowler for Somerset with three for 27 off seven overs.

Reid Jones was high-man for Somerset in reply with 30, Tony Cheeseman hit 26 and Jermaine Warner 21.
