Iron Kids rewarded
Three lucky boys and girls won educational funds at the annual Capital G Iron Kids Triathlon held last Saturday at Clearwater Beach.
Over two hundred and fifty budding young athletes competed in this year’s event — a 10 percent increase in the number of entrants from last year.
Sponsor Capital G upped the ante in the 11-14 year-old division by awarding the top three male and female finishers with a funded five-year Time Deposit Account intended to be used for their college or university education.
The winners were Alex Godfrey ($1,000), Nathan Amaral ($500), Ryan Pinches ($250), Molly Pilgrim ($1,000), Carys Pinches ($500) and Jazmine Outerbridge ($250).
In the seven-ten year-old division it was once again Justin Ferriera who produced the fasted time of the day in the boys’ division with Gabriella Arnold leading the girls home.
The most improved awards went to Joshua Stephenson and Erin Bib in the seven-ten year-old division — with both athletes reducing their finishing time from the previous year by over four minutes.
In the 11-14 division it was Rachel Fox and Jacob Worsfield who showed the greatest improvement over the last year.
In the non-racing bike divisions it was visitor Brianna Sullivan and Kaz Godfrey who took overall honours in the seven-ten year-old division while Justin Ferriera and Gabriella Arnold once again took the overall on a racing bike in that age category.
Alex Godfrey and Molly Pilgrim took the overall awards in the racing bike 11-14 year-old division with Nakeno Creighton taking honours in the non-racing division.
The increasingly popular “Tiny Tots” event attracted a record number of entries with more than 120 athletes who are six-and- under toeing the line.
As with all the races on the day every finisher received a medal from professional triathlete Flora Duffy or Kim McMullen.
In addition to the official triathlon, the event also included a Beach Olympics event for local school children and youth groups. Prospect Primary School were once again the winners of this exciting competition.
