Argus Open imports
Other than perennial favourite Andy Bray the rest of Bermuda’s 2007 Island Games team will be competing at this years Argus Open tennis tournament which begins today.
Organisers have also drafted in two Davis Cup players and a Federations Cup player to take part in the eighth annual tournament, hosted at the WER Joell Tennis Stadium and runs until July 14.
Jamaican Davis Cup team players Yussuf Migoko and Tyler Chin as well as Fed Cup team player Tinesta RayFiann Rowe will add some star quality to the event.
Migoko, 28, is one of Jamaica’s leading amateur players having won many national amateur tournaments over the last three years, while Chin, 19, won a national amateur tournament last year.
RayFiann Rowe, 21, is a member of Fresno State University’s team and is currently ranked number 14 in the US NCAA Division One rankings.
Tournament director Allan Simmons had hoped to add another top act but was thwarted due to players having other competition commitments.
“Andy Bray is unable to play as he goes to the UK on business after competing in the Island Games in Rhodes — but we have allowed to rest of the squad to join up when they are back,” he said.
“With Jamaican Davis and Fed Cup team members here we expect some very competitive tennis. As a growing tennis tournament on the Island we are pleased to bring in some international talent to compete against our local players.”
