Super Sims makes cut

A two-under par 69 helped Michael Sims make his fifth cut of the year on the Nationwide Tour yesterday following the second round of the $700,000 National Hospital Invitational in Columbus, Ohio.

With the entire 141-man field finding the conditions on the 7,090-yard Ohio State University Scarlet Course difficult to master, Sims ended the day in a tie for 23rd at one-over for the tournament — two shots clear of the cut and six shots back of the lead, which is currently being held by Americans Daniel Sumerhays and Kelly Grunewold.

Sims’ first round of 74 (three-over) contained a total of five bogeys, and he would have begun yesterday’s round assuming that a sub-par score of around 66 or better was going required to make the cut.

As it happened, scoring was generally pretty high on the day and Sims’ excellent 69, which included only one bogey and three birdies, proved more than enough to put him in the clear.
