Good meet for young Island swimmers
Seven young Bermudian swimmers arrived back on the Island after a successful meet at the 2007 Alberta Provincial Age Group Championships.
The group, led by Coach Ben Smith, (Head Coach of the Sharks Swim Team and Assistant National Coach) and Team Manager Lee Petty, consisted of six swimmers from the Sharks Swim Club and one swimmer from the Harbour Amateur Swim Club, along with a group of six supporters.
By the end of the meet each swimmer left with great results.
Ashley Yearwood, 12, from the Harbour Swim Club, who competed in the 11 and 12 age group, medalled in six out of seven events.

Claire Hawley, 14, of Sharks, had a successful swim meet with five personal best swims. Claire placed 15th overall in the 400m freestyle with a time of 4:57 and competed in two out of the five relays, the 4x100 individual medley and the 4x200 freestyle.
Thirteen-year-old Rachael Petty of Sharks swam her best race in the 100m backstroke, making consolation finals with a time of 1:17. She also went on to compete in the 50m & 100m freestyle consolation finals.
Sharks’ Kellan DeSilva, 15, had his main success on the final day in the 100m freestyle, where he made a AAA time. With one more AAA time he will qualify for the World Youth Championships in Mexico next year.
Nicholas Patterson,13, had a memorable race in the 200m butterfly, placing sixth with a time of 2:45.
Rebecca Heyliger started her meet with a silver medal in the 50m freestyle. The 14-year-old was seventh in the 100m of the same event and gained personal best times in many of her races.
Morgan Hopkins,13, had her best swim in the 200m breaststroke with a personal best time. She did personal bests in the 400m freestyle, 100m freestyle and her relay races.
