Pacers among the medals
The Bermuda Pacers Track Club turned in another outstanding performance at this years' Russell. E. Blunt East Coast Invitational Track Meet held at Duke University this past weekend, finishing in fourth place overall out of the 135 teams.
The team won 20 medals, seven gold, 12 silver and a bronze. The Pacer Boys team were runners-up in the male division.
The team was lead by the outstanding performances of Matthew Spring and Ryan Furbert. Spring competed in the 3000 metres, running an impressive time and setting a new meet record of nine minutes, 6.02 seconds.
He followed up this performance by winning gold medals in both the 1500m (4.09.98) and the 800m in (.:57.5) and was selected outstanding male athlete in the 15-16 boys division.
Ryan Furbert, making his second appearance at the meet, competed in the 13-14 boys age group. He set a new meet record in the 13-14 boys high jump with a leap of 1.84m. He also won silver medals in both the 800m (2.06.35, which was a personal best) and 400m (53.78, another PB).
Also collecting three medals was Alexis Bean in the 15-16 girls age group. She won silver medals in both the 3000m (10.49.97), 800m (2.21.26) and a bronze in the 1500m (5.00.72).
Other double medal winners were:
Aaron Evans in the 17-18 boys' age group, who won gold in the 1500m (4.11.50) and silver in the 800m (1.55.99).
Jordan Bascome in the 9-10 girls division, who won gold in high jump reaching a height of 1.31m and a silver in the 400m (1:06.36).
Trey Simons in the 13-14 boys won silver medals in the 3000m (10:08.90) and 1500m (4:35.21).
Meanwhile, other medal winners included Kyle Webb who took gold in the 11-12 boys long jump with a leap of 4.93m. Kijuan Wilkinson won the silver in the 17-18 boys Triple Jump with an effort of 13.93m. Harold Tre Houston also took silver in the 17-18 boys 200m (21.86) while Justin Donawa claimed the second spot on the podium in the11-12 boys long jump (4.75m)
Jaz Ratteray-Smith also won silver in the 9-10 boys' high jump (1.31m).
