Mussenden rewarded with new role at FIFA
Bermuda may well be a dwarf among giants in the world of football, but a couple of recent FIFA appointments prove that our administrators at least are punching above their weight.
Following the re-election of FIFA president Sepp Blatter in May, it was announced this week that Bermuda Football Association president Larry Mussenden has been appointed chairman of the world governing body's appeals committee.
The appeal committee consists of 20 members from countries around the world.
Mussenden was previously a member of the FIFA disciplinary committee and served four years in that capacity, during which time he sat on a number of disciplinary hearings in the USA and Zurich and served at last year's World Cup in Germany.
His current appointment will be for four years, during which time the former Attorney General will be responsible for the management and hearing of all cases of football disputes around the world that are sent on appeal to the appeals committee.
Meanwhile, BFA general secretary David Sabir will continue to serve on the stadium and security committee, whose mandate is to inspect all stadia around the world that will be used for FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.
Sabir has served on this committee for the last year and has been involved in the inspection of several stadia in the Concacaf region.
