Marshall double act puts Rangers to the sword
Social Club 293; Southampton Rangers 178
The uncle and nephew combination of Charlie and Jahmiko Marshall condemned hosts and defending Premier Division champions Southampton Rangers to a 115 run loss ¿ their fifth of the season ¿ at Southampton Oval yesterday.
Only hours after retaining his place in St. George's Cup Match team elder statesman Charlie Marshall tore the Rangers attack to shreds after being dropped at mid-wicket on 13.
Marshall, batting at number eight, hammered eight fours and nine sixes in a whirlwind knock of 115 off 73 balls to make the host team pay dearly for their missed opportunity in the field.
Along with Somerset Cup Match recall Kevin Hurdle (58), Marshall added 70 runs for the seventh-wicket and a further 88 runs with Nakia Smith (33 not out) for the eighth-wicket before he was finally dismissed, caught by Malachi Jones at mid-wicket off the bowling of Janeiro Tucker, in the 46th over as Social Club rattled up a massive total in their allotted overs.
Spinners Keith Wainwright and Dwayne Leverock and veteran seamer Gary Crofton ¿ lured out of retirement for the occasion as Rangers started the match with only seven players ¿ each seized two-wickets on a pitch favouring the batsmen.
After watching his uncle shine earlier with the bat, all rounder Jahmiko Marshall then stamped his authority on the match by grabbing six for 34 off 9.1 overs with one maiden as Social club used only 32.4 overs to dismiss their hosts.
Marshall also received good support from Hurdle who collected three for 25 off seven overs.
Rangers skipper Kwame Tucker (40), cousin Janeiro Tucker (36) and Curtis Jackson (39) led the home team's resistance.
Elsewhere, St. George's defeated hosts Western Stars by three-wickets at St. John's Field.
Led by an aggressive 41 from youngster Ryan Tyrell, Stars overcame a somewhat shaky start to post a respectable 203 all out.
St. George's skipper Ryan Steede grabbed three for 26 to lead the East Ender's attack.
Chasing 204 for victory, St. George's were able to achieve their winning objective with veteran all rounder Herbie Bascome leading the way with 38.
Denzel Wellman was the pick of the Stars bowling with figures of two for ten off three overs.
At Lords, Chris Foggo cracked 64 runs and Lamar Richardson grabbed four for 48 to spur hosts St. David's to a 64 run win over the returning Bermuda Under-19s. Diminutive all-rounder Dennico Hollis topped the Under-19s batting with a well-played 55, while England based seamer Stefan Kelly collected three for 18 in a losing cause.
At Somerset Cricket Club, hosts Somerset defeated Cleveland by four-wickets. Cleveland won the toss and elected to bat with player/coach Clay Smith and son Clay Darrell leading the way with 104 and 55 not out respectively.
Somerset all-rounder Jermaine Warner, playing under appeal, led the West Ende''s attack with four for 47 while left arm spinner Hassan Durham had of two for 16.
In reply, Somerset found themselves in early trouble at 64 for five. But the hosts were able to recover thanks to some timely knocks from their middle order.
Skipper Jacobi Robinson led the Somerset revival with an unbeaten 95 while Reid Jones added an unbeaten 56 and Warner 41 to cap off a superb all round performance with bat and ball as the hosts achieved victory with 48 balls to spare.
Charles Richardson (two for 64) and Barry Gibbons (two for 54) lead the Cleveland bowling.
In First Division play, Devonshire handed Willow Cuts a four-wicket loss at Devonshire Rec.
Father Ricky Brangman sr scored 47 not out and son Derek Brangman ¿ one of two colts set to appear in this week's Cup Match classic at Wellington Oval ¿ grabbed three for two off 4.3 overs with three maidens to restrict the visiting Cuts to 132 all out.
All-rounder Sheroy Fubler topped the Cuts batting with 31 while cousin Kevon Fubler took three for 31 to lead the visitors' attack.
At Sea Breeze Oval, former national team all rounder Saleem Mukuddem slammed an unbeaten 103 to guide Leg Trappers to a 84 run win over PHC.
Trappers piled up 195 for eight in their allotted 46 overs with Mukuddem ¿ who claimed Bermuda's first World Cup wicket in Trinidad earlier this year ¿ leading the way with a well-deserved century.
Neil Anglin claimed three for 18 to lead the PHC attack.
PHC fell well short in their reply with only Gerald Simons offering resistance by scoring 23.
Nigel Forrester and Dwayne Webber each grabbed four for 36 to spearhead the Trappers' attack.
